Everything you need to know about working with me.

If you’re curious about my health coaching programme, or what working with me might be like, before, or after you book in a call to explore it, this blog aims to help clarify and encourage you.

You might have worked with coaches before, or be wondering if there’s any chance that the work you do can possibly fit in with your busy life.

1.You have to be ready

If it isn’t the right time, then coaching isn’t going to help you, and neither of us will get the most out of the time we spend together.

I won’t push you into working with me. Especially If you’re not ready. You might not be ready for all sorts of reasoning, financial, and emotional, as well as health and stability. I’m a health coach, I’m not a medic, or a psychotherapist, dietician or nutritionist. And if this is what you need I’ll point you in that direction after our strategy call.

2. You get to go at your own pace.

Although 30 day transformations can seem attractive and efficient, they rarely last, and if you’re already on the edge of burnout they can deplete you further. If you’ve tried them before, you’ll know they’re hard to maintain once the initial enthusiasm has passed.

Instead, we explore where you are in your own life now, and what feels like it will make the most impact. We take baby steps where you need them and embed small but powerful actions (drinking more water, and allowing micro rests take little time but have a big impact on energy for example).

Don’t underestimate the power of small actions. Success breeds success, when it comes to health - more restful moments can lead to better sleep, which helps improve energy, as well as food and beverage choices, which then helps to stabilise mood.

It can take time. I suggest that you work with me for at least 4 months, but often there’s real progress after 6 months to a year. We assess this regularly in our weekly sessions, so you get to decide the duration.

I had a coffee with a client recently, 2 years after we worked together. Her work, family, and relationships have completely turned around in that time, but much of it was kick started by our work together, rather than being a sudden transformation.

3. This is a relationship of mutual respect

We are equals in this relationship, I bring my expertise and empathy, you bring a willingness to be open, and share what you need to share. You don’t need to ‘impress’ me. I’m not a teacher who’s going to grade you on your progress.

You can turn off your people pleasing tendencies and show up as your whole, true self. And if you’re not sure what that feels like, I’ll help you get there.

I will never share details about our work together, unless its with your permission for a case study, or in a testimonial.  You have my support, backing and trust.

I listen deeply, and ask questions, but I’ll never ‘tell you’ what to do, it’s all your own choice.

4. We meet regularly

We aim to meet at the same time every week (within reason), on Zoom, in my coaching hut in Barrow Gurney, North Somerset, or for a walking coaching session in Ashton Court, Bristol. This is usually for at least 4 months, for the most benefit.

We both agree to turn up on time and be fully present in each session.

Creating a routine around our sessions helps to build trust and supports your progress. If life gets in the way and you need to cancel a session we can either use a tool like Voxr to keep momentum going or reschedule if possible.

Sometimes we drop sessions down to fortnightly, but I hold your regular space in my calendar in case you need it.

5. I won’t (can’t) give you diet advice or meal plans

I’m not a nutritional therapist or dietician. It’s outside of my scope of practice (but I’ve got a great referral network!).

But I will help you make informed decision and adjustment to how you plan and nourish yourself as fits your own requirements. We are all individuals. I’ll help you listen to your needs so you know how to fulfil them, rather than follow generic diet plans or one-size-fits-all advice.

I have access to a wealth of knowledge, and experience, and I’ll share this when it’s relevant and only if you request it.

6. I have never had a bad review

I am proud of the way I work, and the clients I work with. And the positive impact I have on my client’s lives.

I work with a small number of clients at a time, and I take a personalised approach to every one. No cookie cutter programmesfrom me. I have a framework I use, developed over the last 10 years of working with women, but the shape of it changes for each client, and we have regular assessments to help you get perspective on your progress. No client is the same. I adjust to suit you.

7. I won’t suggest a magic pill or overnight solution

Because they don’t exist.

Sometimes the change in perspective on a problem from a coaching session can feel pretty ‘magic’ though.

8.This investment in working with me will be the gift that keeps on giving.

It’s a big investment, but it’s worth it.

I know it can feel a bit scary, that you’ll be wondering what you’ll get out of it.

You’ll know yourself better, your relationships will improve, you’ll get deeper satisfaction from your work and reconnect with a sense of purpose for your life. You can’t put a value on this, but I know that your life will be better as a result.

9. You’ll no longer waste money and time on quick fix diet plans and random expensive supplements promising the works (see number 7 above!).

You’ll know what you want and need, and have better access to your inner navigation system.

Your intuition, values, and your personal boundaries can light the way forward.
