The discomfort and opportunity of perimenopause

Perimenopause can be uncomfortable.

As periods can be. As can any change or transition.

Yes, we can take a painkiller, or HRT, perhaps a supplement or 2 but if we don’t deal with the source of the discomfort we may be missing out.

You could be missing out on a chance to heal, and a chance to live life more fully.

I support my clients to make better connection with their bodies and their needs. To understand the link between their stress, sleep patterns, how they eat, their movements and exercise habits and how they feel.

I believe that you can feel empowered through your perimenopause and emerge better connected to your wellbeing and your needs than ever before.

So, perhaps, if you wake up feeling like exhausted, or you get a mid afternoon slump, or feel a migraine coming, or that your mood is feeling like a tornado, you can find the answers as to why and the solution within yourself.

  • Perhaps you slept badly because you ate a big meal late at night, or had a glass of wine, or because you’re pre menstrual, so the solution might be to make sure you spend a bit of time in daylight in the morning, to drink plenty of water and create a lovely sleep ritual to get you into bed relaxed and in good time the next night.

  • Perhaps you have a mid afternoon slump because you’ve been functioning on adrenalin and caffeine all morning and didn’t have time to get balance into your breakfast and lunch. Or didn’t get round to eating enough, or you’re dehydrated. You solution might be a glass of water, a protein based snack and a 5 minute downtime.

  • Or perhaps you’ve got the telltale signs of a migraine, and you remember that you had a delicious rich dessert the night before and then forgot to have breakfast, or you haven’t had enough sleep/water/daylight.

  • Or you’ve lost your rag AGAIN over a tiny thing. You know your period is due but you don’t recognise the person you become for a few days. And so you look back at the previous month and see that you didn’t rest at the weekends or during your bleed, and you’ve been burning the candle at both ends again, or you’ve been putting everyone else first and the resentment is building up.

Imagine knowing yourself that much better. So that you don’t have to feel out of control due to exhaustion, overwhelm, low mood, and pain…but you can understand and accept where they come from and take empowered action to feel better.

You don’t need to feel defined by your symptoms, you can use them as a tool to take empowered action.

Not bad eh?
